{ FAREWELL SUMMER }

It was a great Summer here in Utah.  The weather was quite pleasant as it never got overly hot and miserable which was really nice.  One of the best highlights of the summer was meeting Melissa Schuur.  She was the winner of the World Wide Giveaway.  If you don’t remember what that was [click here].   I planned the shoots for this 2 day workshop  for months.  The agenda included a vintage Coca Cola shoot (those pics coming soon) with the ever beautiful couple Madeline and Justin and a fun shabby Summer lemonade stand!  We covered so much over the two days and by the end of the first day Melissa was shooting in manual perfectly!  The weather was amazing (although it threatened to be naughty both days), and we had the most incredible shoots!  We ate delicious food and pretty much laughed our guts out…. (I like to laugh people)!   Good times!!

This Lemonade shoot was crazy!  My poor husband got roped into making the lemonade stand like 1 day before the shoot was to take place!  With a lot of hard work and help from my sister we were able to make this lemonade stand the shabby vintage style I envisioned.  ***NOT all sessions need to be stylized with ooodles of props.  There is just something about going out and shooting without all the added props.  It’s raw, its real, it’s fantastic.  But stylized and themed shoot are simply just a fun way for me to express all the crazy ideas that rattle around in my brain!

enjoy!

{ WHAT “BEST FRIENDS” LOOK LIKE }

I am thrilled to be joining in a 12 month photography project with a group of incredibly talented photographers from across the country.  The theme each month is “what _____ looks like”,  and we have to fill in the blank.  We will each link to another photographer in the group until the circle of 12 is complete.  I am looking forward to seeing the different perspectives of each photographer and also getting to know them better through their imagery.  There are very few rules, however the photographs must be of our own children and family, and taken in a lifestyle format (meaning less “posed” and more “in the moment”…which will be a HUGE stretch for me”).  We get so caught up in shooting for clients and other projects that it’s easy to neglect capturing all the sweet and fleeting moments of our own families.  I look forward to documenting my family and creating a photographic journal of who we are.  Hopefully this project might inspire you to go out and do the same.  To focus on our families, the ones we love and who mean the most to us.  These will be the photographs that will mean the most to us 30 years from now.

I decided I would start this project out focused on my boys.  They aren’t much like typical boys their age.  They’re not really into music, fashion, posters, texting, or girls yet.  They seem to be content just enjoying their childhood and being carefree.  My boys love carving swords with their pocket knives, launching rocks with their sling shots, climbing trees in their “fort”, fishing, exploring in the mountains, and swimming in any waterhole they can find!  My boys are kind, honest, loving, and full of life .  I utterly adore them and love them to pieces.  They truly are best of friends.

I can’t help it….I’m such a “poser” If you want mega inspiration, be sure to check out the imagery of the different photographers participating!  To start, here is a link to  Jules Trandem | San Diego Lifestyle Photographer

{ BEYOND BEAUTIFUL }

Sarah and Analisa were so great to help me out as my models for my in person mentoring session with Amy Earle.  Not only are these girls beautiful, but they are just the sweetest ever!  Amy Earle from Simply B Photos came all the way from Alaska to spend the day mentoring with me!  Boy did we have fun together!  We had a long day of learning, shooting, and editing…and lots of laughs along the way!  What a talented and amazing person and photographer!  Normally I don’t edit this many images, but I COULD NOT narrow down my favorites from this shoot.  We had some amazing locations to shoot at and the light was so incredible!  So hopefully this eye candy will make up for my lack of blog posts lately!  This was a fabulous day to be remembered!

{ PHOTOSHOP FRIDAY }

My biggest struggle in photography is deciding which images I will edit!!  I always fall in love with so many photographs and it can sometimes be hard to be “done” with a session.   I just had to get these before and afters up on the blog.  Facebook could never do them justice.  These two sisters have beauty oozing from the inside out!

{ PHOTOSHOP FRIDAY }

I know…it’s SUNDAY.   But hey, I’ve missed a few of my photoshop Fridays lately.  I really think this girl is so beautiful and I was having fun editing and coming up with a look for this image.  I decided to add in some sun haze in photoshop and try a few different variations.  Do you have a favorite?
